Reefcentral is not dead! 07/16/2009

Apparently the early reports were that RC was dead! It has now been confirmed on Reefcentral that its demise was a rumor.

From RC home page:

Hello RC Members.

Sorry for the interruption. We'll be back in a little while, I need to check something.

To the folks spreading rumors and making up quotes, it's pretty sad when you have to resort to lying to try and get members.

The truth is that during an upgrade to mySQL we encountered an error that needed to be corrected. Unlike most sites, our database is very large and routine checks can take quite a long time to run. That's one of the reasons why we're one of the few sites that runs a full nightly backup. We'll be back this morning with virtually zero data loss. Sorry to disappoint the folks forging the emails.

Slander and libel are pretty serious things.
Cheers

I for one am very happy with this outcome as RC was my forum of choice.

UPDATE: RC is back up! GO! GO! GO!

Recently started using Strontium..... 07/07/2009

After reading many good things about Strontium online and in The Reef Aquarium Vol III, I decided to give it a shot. I only do water changes once a month so I felt that my system was not receiving enough Strontium.

I have been dosing Strontium for almost a month know and have had some positive results. The first thing I noticed was new growth tips on almost all of my SPS. The addition of Strontium seems to have kick-started growth again.

One thing I did not like was the increase in pruple and pink coralline algae growth. Some people like corraline but I dont as it makes my job cleaning the glass much harder.

So, I like the additions of Strontium annd will continue to do so in the future.

I am using Sechem brand Strontium pictures above.

Got flow? Another Vortech pump added to the system. 06/15/2009

Recently, I traded out a couple Tunze Nano Stream 6045's and some cash for a Vortech MP20. I already had a Vortech MP40W on the left side of the tank and the second Vortech has made a big difference. The width of flow and undertow just cant be touched by any other pump out there. You really cant judge all pumps by GPH(gallons per hour) anymore because the Vortech has completely changed the rules of the game. If you already own a Vortech pump then you know that 3000GPH from the Vortech and 3000GPH from a different pump are not the same. The other pumps push out water in a narrow stream which lead to dead spots and harm to corals. The Vortech on the other had literally moves the entire body of water in your tank, enveloping your corals with life giving aid and respiration.

Polyp extension on my corals has increased and dead spots of low flow are now gone. I have both pumps currently running in Lagoon mode and am very happy with the results.

I highly recommend these pumps to anyone looking for increased flow, growth, and system health.

Vortech MP20 Specifications:

Flow: 500-2000 gallons per hour
Power Consumption: 6-18 watts
Maximum Motor Temperature: 30-40 degrees Celsius
Aquarium Wall Thickness Range: 3/16”-3/4”
Appropriate Tank Size Range: 30-70 gallons
Dimensions: Wet Side- 3” diameter by 2.25” long; Dry Side- 3” diameter by 2.25” long
Clearance Needed Behind Aquarium: 3”
